Alexander Seyed Mortazavi '19

A dual citizen of the United Kingdom and the United States, born to an Iranian father and a mother raised and educated in France, Alex is by origin and mindset a global citizen. Since first joining Westtown in the Lower School, Alex has somehow both come and gone multiple times and been a fixture in our theater as both a performer and a collaborator behind the scenes. An accomplished screenwriter and filmmaker, Alex has won multiple awards in various international film festivals throughout his high school years. After feeding his passion for film at Interlochen Arts Academy in eleventh grade, we are delighted that Alex came home this year to graduate with the Class of 2019. Following a gap year in Southeast Asia, Alex will attend School of Visual Arts in New York City. LEARN MORE

Alivia Anne Thompson ’19

Since joining the Westtown community in sixth grade, Liv has demonstrated a wide variety of academic interests, but has shined especially brightly as a writer across the curriculum. Informed by keen observation and acute social awareness, Liv’s writing has been a gift to our community. Liv used Westtown’s Independent Seminar course to craft a research project in psychology, studying female social aggression and exploring the creation of positive social environments. Ever motivated to translate abstract ideas into positive action, Liv has reached out to younger students again and again, building bridges between students in small and large ways. Members of the cross country team she captained are among the grateful many who have benefited from Liv’s intentional community building throughout her time in the Upper School. Liv will attend Davidson College in the fall. LEARN MORE

Kavya Dayananth ’19

Kavya joined us at the start of her junior year and promptly poured herself into all things Westtown. Increasingly passionate about art during her two years here, Kavya found outlets for her expression in Scenic Arts Design, Computer Aided Design, Design Engineering, and--especially--the clay studio. Kavya’s efforts in these areas were recently recognized with the Art Department’s “Craft of Art” Award. A natural leader of her peers, Kavya was one of the heads of the
Unite for Her club and served as a prefect on dorm. In all these endeavors, Kavya exudes enormous positive energy. As one faculty member noted, “Every class needs a Kavya Dayananth. Think of her as a double shot of espresso or full can of Red Bull. Kavya is an instant mood changer.” Kavya will attend Rochester Institute of Technology in the fall. LEARN MORE

Elijah Mythius Vega ’19

Originally connected to Westtown through Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership, Eli joined the Upper School last year as a junior and immediately engaged with all this community has to offer. While Eli has a broad range of academic interests, he is particularly passionate about economics and statistics, as well as sustainable and ethical business. An active member of In the Know--a Black male affinity group--and both the Students of Color Association and the Latinx Leadership Forum, Eli has also demonstrated his leadership as a dormitory prefect, a varsity wrestler, and a lacrosse captain. One coach described Eli as “the standard by which others are measured…defining what it means to lead with heart. His character is infectious and inspires others to be better.” Indeed. Eli will attend Haverford College in the fall. LEARN MORE
